Hi my name is Eric Kramer, I along with Mark and Izzy am working on building airportchatter.com into the best and most intuitive airport guide the web has ever seen.
Over the most recent Thanksgiving weekend I had the opportunity to fly in and out of Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR – airport) otherwise called Aeropuerto Internacional Daniel Oduber Quirós. There are currently two terminals one of which is not open yet but is set to open any day now. Now Iv’e done my share of traveling although usually though the bussier international airports of the world . LIR is probably the smallest airport Iv’e ever been through, what I found most unique about the airport was its design, there are no exterior walls to the terminal.
The entire airport is “open air” standing out side on one side of the airport you can see right through to the other side. There are few amenities in the current terminal they include one duty free shop one food stall which on busy weekend runs out of food, and a souvenir shop which has little more than a few postcards and T-shirts.
There are no on-site rental car agencies they are all a few minute drive away, although as you walk out of the airport there are representatives from each agency yelling for your attention. The new terminal looks like any other modern airport anywhere in the world which in my opinion will kind of spoil the uniqueness I experienced this past weekend. Anyhow just wanted to share my thoughts have you ever gone thru a really unique airport ?
