It’s here! The 2012 U.S. Open are taking place at San Francisco. The historic Olympic Club  is playing host to the 112th U.S. Open Championships from June 11th to 17th, and we’ve got all the details to navigating your way from San Francisco International Airport.

We wanted to make it easier for you so we put together a short guide to SFO. If you’d like to share your own tips and tricks please do so in the comments, safe travels!

Airport Overview

  • San Francisco International Airport
  • Ranked #10 busiest airport list in the US
  • 4 Terminals: T1, T2, T3, International
  • Airport Phone number for assistance: (800) 435-9736
  • Located 13 minutes from downtown San Francisco, in San Mateo County
  • Airtrain connects all four terminals together in addition to the SFO BART Station and Rental Car Center.

Ground Transportation

  • BART (Bay Area Local Transit): Located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International G Terminal, passengers can easily connect to downtown San Francisco by taking the yellow BART line towards Pittsburgh/Bay Point. BART is currently offering a discounted BART transfer and U.S. Open transfer for the event and can be purchased in advance here.
  • SamTrans: Servicing San Mateo County and SFO 24 hours a day, the bus lines KX, 292, and 397 can be accessed at Terminal 2, 3, and the International Terminal. Locations of bus stops can be found here.
  • Shared Airport Ride:  $17 is the average fare for shared ride services. However, prices will be higher if you’re venturing from the airport to neighborhoods outside of the Financial District (including the U.S. Open). Your best bet would be to call ahead for approximate pricing, and to make a reservation if you’re arriving past 11:00 pm. Shared ride services can be located at the roadway center island on the Departures/Ticketing Level at all terminals. A interactive map can be found here.
  • Limo: Either Limos.com to do a price search, on average the price is in the $50-70 range. A list of limos can be found here or you can use Uber to request a private car for a flat rate of $65.
  • Rental Car: Located in the lower level by baggage claim (Advantage Rent a Car, Alamo/National, Avis, Budget, Dollar Rent a Car, Enterprise)
  • Taxi: Fares from the airport to downtown are roughly $40 and can be hailed from the Arrivals/Baggage Claim where uniformed taxi coordinators are located.

Avoid delays by not packing your bag too tightly, allowing personnel to easily search or x-ray it. Always keep your ID and boarding pass handy, wear shoes that can easily be taken off and be ready to show that any electronic device actually works.
